Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company will debut the first episode of the eagerly anticipatedThe X-Filesevent series on Tuesday, Oct. 6 in a World Premiere TV Screening at MIPCOM in Cannes, France. The episode - the first in the six-episodeevent series- is entitledMy Struggleand will be unveiled by series creator and executive producerChris Carterat the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals. On Saturday, Oct. 10,Foxbrings the episode to the the Main Stage of the Javits Center during the sold-out fan event New York Comic Con for its U.S premiere, followed by a Q&A withChris Carter, the episode’s writer/director, and series starDavid Duchovny.
The X-Filesreturns to Fox with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).David DuchovnyandGillian Andersonreprise their iconic roles as AgentFox Mulderand AgentDana Scullyin the upcoming event series which will encompass a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee.
The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, includingJoel McHale(Community),Robbie Amell(The Flash),Lauren Ambrose(Dig, Six Feet Under),Annabeth Gish(The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans),Rhys Darby(Flight of the Conchords),Kumail Nanjiani(Silicon Valley) andWilliam B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed byChris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan andJames Wong.
The X-Filesoriginally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases -X-Files- for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.The X-Filesis a production of 20th Century Fox Television in association with Ten Thirteen Productions. Carter is executive producer and creator of the series. Glen Morgan also serves as an executive producer.
Production on the six-episode revival series wrapped last week, after a three-month shoot in Vancouver.David Duchovnyhas stated in interviews that he would be open to coming back for even more episodes, as long as it isn’t a full 22-episode season.
