Wilmer Valderrama owns the Forman family’s station wagon seen in the classic comedy seriesThat ’70s Show, and the actor says it’s the “best thing” he’s ever acquired in his whole career. A 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, the vehicle was featured in the intro of every episode as the cast sang the theme song, Cheap Trick’s “In the Street.” It also played heavily into many of the show’s storylines over the course of eight seasons.
This week,Wilmer Valderramaappeared as a guest onThe Kelly Clarkson Showfor a socially-distanced interview with Kelly and Wilmer conducting the interview from their cars. When the subject of old cars came up, Valderrama revealed that he was the lucky cast member fromThat ’70s Showto wind up with the station wagon. Because the car is such an important part of TV history, it would have undeniably sold for a high price to a collector, but Wilmer picked it up for practically nothing.
“I got the Vista Cruiser. You know, it was towards the end of the show, we were in the last season ofThat ’70s Show, and I went straight to the props department. I go, ‘Listen, how much for the Vista Cruiser?’ He goes, ‘What? You don’t want that thing.’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I do. I need the Vista Cruiser.’ And they said 500 bucks, so I bought the Vista Cruiser for 500 bucks from our props department. And, honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve ever acquired from my whole career.”
Looking at the classic car also floods Wilmer withnostalgic memoriesof working onThat ’70s Showas a teenage actor at the start of his career. It doesn’t sound like there are plans for the car to ever go anywhere, either, as Valderrama also explains to Kelly.
“Honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve ever acquired for my whole career. When I look at that car, it reminds me of when I was 17, 18 years old, bookingThat ’70s Showand doing that opening sequence where we’re just driving. And, honestly, it’s going to be in my family forever. I’m going to put it in my will to make sure that my kids have the burden of keeping that car in the garage, you know?”
In recent years, Valderrama has been open about hiswillingness to reunite with the restof the cast ofThat ’70s Showfor some kind of reboot or reunion special. In 2019, he teased that had even had conversations about the possibility. Unfortunately for fans, Danny Masterson’s legal troubles will likely prevent a special reunion from happening anytime soon, unless the old gang gets back together without Hyde. Masterson was previously fired by Ashton Kutcher’s show on Netflix,The Ranch, due to allegations of sexual assault.
That ’70s Showwas a product of its time - the late ’90s - but many fans will always look back at the show with the same feelings of nostalgia as Valderrama.
