As you play throughMonster Hunter Wildsyou may notice that there is a section in the tent menu to edit your armor. Unfortunately enough, it won’t be available to use to its full potential right away and will require some work to unlock the ability to equip Layered Armor.

Many new players will be joining the hunt, but which weapons will be the best to start with?
Unlocking Layered Armor
You’ll have to work to unlock the full perks of the customization menu.
The first step to unlocking the ability to use Layered Armor and armor dyes is to progress the main story. After beating one of the flagship monsters in the story and progressing to the point of High-Rank hunts, you’ll be given access to these new options to customize your hunter’s appearance.
Equipping Layered Armor
Once you can take on High-Rank hunts, speak with Gemma to unlock Layered Armor.
When the High-Ranked hunts are available, you’re able to speak with the blacksmith NPC, Gemma, to learn more about how to equip some Layered Armor. It should be noted that the lower-ranked armor cannot be used for Layered Armor, so you will have to go through and hunt the newer level of these monsters for the gear that you’d like to have the appearance of.
When these hunts are available, and you’ve got a few pieces of armor to experiment with, you’re able to head to your tent in the Base Camp. It is here where you can visit your tent and go to the furthest tab,Appearance Menu, on the right and edit your appearance and gear. TheEquipment Appearanceoption will then bring up your Layered Armor, Underclothes, and Pendants customization options. Each piece of Layered Armor is selectable in this menu after you have crafted it and won’t need to be equipped anymore if it doesn’t have the stats you need.
The Sub-menu option can also help with changing all pigment dyes for each piece of armor rather than one at a time.
With this, all you need to do is hunt down monsters as you please and craft the gear you like the look of. There are a ton of armor options and each monster has its own unique look that you’re able to mix and match. Armor will also have several A and B variants as well as some alternate color palettes for you to dye for Layered Armor. Be sure to play around and find new sets that make you look like the hunter you’ve always wanted in the series.
