The Gameplay builds upon what we saw from thecinematic trailerthat showed off protagonist Kay Vess, on the run from Bounty Hunters and getting involved in a shady deal to wipe away her debts. In the gameplay reveal we get to see more of Kay in action as they sneak through an enemy faction stronghold on a mission.

Across the Universe- What Will The Open World of Star Wars Outlaws Look Like?

From the gameplay shownStar Wars Outlaws’ open world looks a bit different from the classic Ubisoft usual. Although there was noFar Cry-esc climb up a tall radio tower,Star Wars Outlawsstill had a hint of the traversal mechanics we’ve come to see from games likeAssassins Creedas well as an expansive open world.

We get to see Kay Vess attempting to sneak her way out of a hostile fortress with an important package. After using a large moving crate to sneak by enemies, Kay is corned by a Rodian guard, (that’s the same race as the unluckyGreedo), where she shoots first. After this a huge gunfight ensues, where Kay uses a variety of blaster rounds, including stun blasts, to take down waves of enemies.

The gameplay reveal also shows off more of Kay’s furry companion Nixhelping out during a mission. Nix appears to be used in a similar way toJedi Survivor’sBD1 helping Kay distract enemies and grabbing items and ammo for you during a fight.

Escaping outside the compound we get our first taste at speeder combat with Kay weaving between the environment to escape. Finding themselves between two enemy speeder’s time slows down, as what looks like a focus ability to help Kay aim better, is used to take down the pursuing bad guys.

After successfully escaping the Pyke crime syndicate, Kay meets up with droid companion ND-5 (Who debuted in the cinematic trailer), at a local Cantina, Jaunta’s Hope to complete their mission. However, things go awry (again), as an imperial officer confronts Kay threatening them for a percentage of their hard earned credits.

This is where we see the first use of a dialogue interaction menu that lets the player pick their response to the threat. In the case of this gameplay walkthrough the more rebellious option is chosen resulting in Kay drawing their blaster and leaving before the officer can “tax” their credits.

However, due to choosing the more violent option, an imperial announcement flashes up on all the screens in the Cantina, with a large Wanted banner flashing across the screen for the player. Kay is now on the run from all the Storm Troopers in the local area with her and Nix fleeing back to their ship to escape the planet.

When travelling out the atmosphere there is our first look at possibly seamless loading transitions between planets. As kay enters Toshra Orbit they are attacked by imperial ships, showing off ship combat as well as the option to flee with Hyperdrive travel.

Overall things look bright for this latest instalment inStar WarsUniverse.Star Wars Outlawslooks to provide a breath of fresh air from the usually bloated Ubisoft open worlds of the past, giving us living breathing world(s) to explore.
