There is no doubt thatHenry Cavill’sportrayal of Geralt of Rivia will be missed. And not only byThe Witcherfans, but also by Andrzej Sapkowski, the author behind the book saga on which the series is based. with the writer heaping praise on the actor’s version of his character. Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix,The Witcherdebuted in 2019 on the streaming platform with the formerMan of Steelstar as the leading man, who has declared himself a fan of the literary saga and video games, making playing Geralt one of his biggest dreams.
However, in 2022, after his return as Superman inBlack Adam, the actor announced that the third season ofThe Witcherwould be his last. Sure, the show must go on, and Liam Hemsworth will take his place, but it will be difficult to see a new face playing the main character. Or, for Sapkowski, listening to a different voice.
Speaking with the German outlet Beyond Pixels at Vienna Comic Con (viaRedanian Intelligence), Sapkowski confessed to being a big fan of the work that Cavill has done with the character, especially because he now imagines Geralt with his voice:
“There are only letters [in my books]. But then I also saw the series from Netflix and I would say the voice of Cavill, that’s right for me. So my own idea of Geralt’s voice, that would be Cavill.”
Cavill may not return as Geralt in the upcoming seasons ofThe Witcher, but he still has an interesting list of projects coming out. In 2024, he’ll star in Matthew Vaughn’sArgyllealongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, and Samuel L. Jackson, among many others. He’ll also be part of the cast of Guy Ritchie’sThe Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and is currently developing an adaptation ofWarhammer 40000.
Alongside this, it was recently announced thata third Enola Homes movieis in the works at Netflix, so Cavill could also return as the famous Sherlock Holmes in the near future.

Although there are many shows and film sagas that have had to change their main stars, all for very different reasons, it is always difficult to guess if it will work or not.
In the case ofThe Witcher, the criticism received after the announcement of Cavill’s departurehas been very severe, especially because rumors indicate that the actor decided to leave due to creative conflicts with the team behind the series. Being a fan of the saga, reports have claimed that Cavill wanted the story to stay faithful to the source material, running afoul of the creatives behind the show.
Hemsworth’s debut could well have a negative impact at the beginning, but ifthe character development is goodand the story is too, it is possible that Hemsworth will forge his own legacy.
