The Spear inWuchang: Fallen Feathershas a ton of versatile ways to play, with raw damage output builds or creating combination builds around it. One of the best ways to make the weapon maintain damage while being on the defensive is to go into the skill tree and optimize your build to be able to cast spells frequently while you wait for an opening to strike your enemy.

Best Spear for The Build
For this build, there is only one spear that can help maintain what you need to go for.
TheSteampowered Spearis an early game weapon purchased from one of the Panda NPC vendors in the first chapter. This spear offers a fantastic Weapon Skill that is quick, offers a follow-up combo, and scales well with the stats that other trees have to offer. It also has good synergy with spells and generates Skyborn Might frequently, which is the main draw of this build.
Skill Tree Sections to Build Into
Build into the Spear, One-Handed Sword, and Manna Vase trees.
For a good portion of the game, you will want to use theAerial Bulwarkskill to generate stacks ofSkyborn Mightduring fights. One of the final skills you can unlock for the weapon is theSpearveilskill, which is going to be a faster and more effective version of Aerial Bulwark to generate Skyborn Might faster.
TheManna VaseandOne-Handed Swordtrees are extremely effective for another reason. Your Manna Vase tree will provide you with more healing and health in general, but also helps scale up your magic stat. You will also need to go into this tree to gain access to theFiery Embersnode within the tree.Alacritywill also be a node to get early, providing some bonuses for specific spells. These are important to combine with one of the best spells to use with the build.

Another tree for this is the One-Handed Sword tree; there is an entire portion of this tree dedicated to getting more points into magic. Both of these are exactly what you’ll need for this build, creating openings with magic frequently and building up your ability to use it with the Spearveil skill.
Weapon Benediction To Use
Getting more damage output for the Steampowered Spear is the goal for your benedictions.
Going forward with benedictions for the Steampowered Spear, you will need to go with the Disciplinary Force trio. These will increase the attack power of the weapon as you unlock more and more skills. With all three of these benedictions and 9 total skills unlocked, you will add a significant amount of damage to the spear.
Benedictions to Use
Getting all theDiscipline Skillswith both the Spear and One-Handed Sword will get you to the total you need to gain this damage bonus. While this won’t be something you may achieve until later in the game, it will ensure that you are dealing some consistent and solid damage to those endgame enemies with your spear and your spells.
Spells and Tempering
While any fire spells will work, there is a combination of two spells that will be amazing with this build.
Getting your hands onBurning Flamesearly in the game will set you up for the majority of this build. It triggersAlacrity, which is in the Manna Vase tree and can be used to dodge incoming damage to gain Skyborn Might. You will be applying burn to your enemies, dodging, and getting ready to attack with your spear. This allows consistent burn damage when you might not be able to get a hit in on a boss, making it a solid spell in general.
Demonbane Strikeis the second skill you’ll want, which is found in theBai Mansionlater in the game. Pair this with the Temperance item to apply fire to your weapons, and you will be set up for great damage output opportunities.

When it comes totemperingfor the build, you will need a few must-have needles. TheFlame Bone Needleis a must, as this will help apply burn frequently on top of your Burning Flames spell.Shadow Stone Needle - Strengthwill further increase Steampowered Spear’s damage.Everlight Stone Needle - Continuitywill allow you to have Tempering for a longer amount of time while in fights. AndPlumed Stone Needle - Temperwill increase your attack power gained from Tempering. All of these combined are central to continued burn applications to enemies and maximum damage from your spear.
Armor and Jade Pendants
Find what armor you like the most, but you’ll need pendants to take the build further.
Armor won’t usually provide the best mitigation bonuses throughout the game. The further you get, the more you will encounter enemies that deal pretty significant amounts offeatheringdamage. Any sets like theClerical RobesorAvian Huntersets are perfect for the endgame sections, but aren’t completely needed. They offer decent mitigation, but if you’re careful when pushing forward, you will be fine.
Something to work on getting will be Jade Pendants, which will add even more benefits to your build. TheSun Pendantis one of note that will be perfect, as it increases the potency of your spells. This is a great choice for making this build even more deadly for your foes. Your second pendant should be theCoiled Dragon Pendant, increasing the power of your Weapon Skills. A great way to improve the Steampowered Spear damage, since you want to use its skill as often as you can. The final choice is more of a quality-of-life option, which is theTwin Infant Pendant. Increasing your stamina recovery isn’t game-changing, but it allows for more frequent dodging and attacks.

This build for the Spear will be one of the best for giving you multiple options for damage output and staying safe in the middle of a fight. Using Discipline Skills and dodges frequently to generate Skyborn Might for spells. Then, when spells are available, you can use these to gain more Skyborn Might to make up for their cost. What you get with the combination of applying burn constantly, Alacrity spells, and use of the Spearveil Skill is a solid all-around build that lets you be offensive, defensive, and agile throughout an entire fight.
