A remake ofSecret of Manawill be released on Feburary 15 forPS Vitaand thePS4. However, noSwitchversion has been announced. AsSquare Enixwere bombarded with requests for a Switch version, it may happen.
Square Enix now considering Secret of Mana remake for the Switch
Speaking to USgamer, Producer Masaru Oyamada explained that development on theSecret of Manaremake started before Switch was announced.Square Enixwas left “very surprised to see the amount of demand and feedback we received for aSwitchversion.” Oyamada said the team “will make an effort to see what is feasible in the future”.
Here are his full words:
“To kind of give background in terms of when the project started, it was about two years ago, and the Switch hadn’t been announced. Once we had announced this particular remake title, we were very surprised to see the amount of demand and feedback we received for a potential Switch version…So, the voices are heard, we’re aware that people are desiring a Switch version, and we will make an effort to see what is feasible in the future, though nothing is confirmed or planned.” - Masuru Oymada
How about Seiken Densetsu Collection for the Switch?
Square EnixreleasedSeiken Densetsu Collectionon theSwitchlast year. Although it’s only been released in Japan, this could change in future. Oyamada said the following about a western release ofSeiken Densetsu Collection:
“Obviously, our focus is on Secret of Mana since we’re in the last part of its development, so obviously it’s hard to definitely say that yes, we will release it. But we’ve obviously heard a lot of demands and requests for that game to be released in the west, and that’s something we will do our best to hopefully achieve, but nothing at this moment in time.”
Secret of Mana was originally released in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 2. Secret of Mana has also been released for iOS and Android devices.
Nintendofans who can’t wait for aSecret of Manaremake can buy the original on the Virtual Console. However, you’ll need a Wii or WiiU for that.Secret of Manawas originally released on the SNES, so it would be nice to see aSwitchremake.
