The Nintendo Switch successor (Switch 2) is getting revealed later this fiscal year and there will be a Nintendo Direct next month, according to the company’s President Shuntaro Furukawa. The Direct, however, won’t have new information on the next console, likely disappointing many fans of theMariopublisher and developer.
Two Exciting News Updates
“We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” said Furukawa onTwitter/X(viaGameXplain). “It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.” It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a decade since we’ve known about the Nintendo Switch’s existence. More information will be revealed by March 2025, however, which is when this current fiscal year will end.
Additionally, there will be a Nintendo Direct in June, which will focus on the “latter half of 2024.” TheSuper Marioseries has taken over the lineup as of late with releases ofPrincess Peach Showtime,Paper Mario: The Thousand Year DoorandMario vs. Donkey Kongtaking the limelight. ALuigi’s Mansion 2HD remaster is also on the way on June 26. Hopefully, more series take center stage, includingThe Legend of Zeldaseries, which has had ports of the remasters ofTwilight PrincessandWindwakerrumored for months now. There’s also a possibility of another 3DS gameKid Icarus Uprisinggetting remastered, but that’s only speculation.

Meccha-Japan Lists ‘Nintendo Switch 2’ for Pre-Order, 2024 Release Window Raises Questions
Meccha-Japan has recently opened pre-orders for the much-speculated ‘Nintendo Switch 2,’ claiming a tentative release window in 2024.
Another series to consider is theMetroid PrimeTrilogy. Ports of the second and third entries in the franchise have been long talked about in the rumor mill, so they could appear as well beforeMetroid Prime 4’s eventual reveal. They are reportedly not remastered like the first game, though.

Other Games To Keep In Mind
With a June 2024 Nintendo Direct upon us, notable third-party games could pop up.Hollow Knight: Silksong,a long-awaited indie sequel, could finally emerge out of the woodwork during the event.
Additionally, there’sPokémon Legends: Z-A,a new open-world title in the series that takes place in Lumiose City. That launches sometime in 2025. It would be fascinating to see how the series evolves with the next entry.

Lastly, we could get a release date on theEpic Mickey:Rebrushedremaster. It’s being worked on bySpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrateddeveloper Purple Lamp. In this game, Mickey is visiting worlds forgotten. He has a unique mechanic, in which he can add or remove objects with Yen Sid’s paint brush.
