2021 has been a phenomenal and record-breaking year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With shows like Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Loki, and WandaVision, and movies like Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Spider-Man: NWH, fans have just been receiving presents like it was Christmas all year round. Now, that hype has been carried forward in 2022 as fans speculate about this new phase of MCU and what direction it will take in the next decade. These are the moments that made them re-think thefuture of MCU.

Venom’s Arrival in MCU We knew something was going to happen ever since then we saw the mid-credits scene of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”. It showed Eddie and Venom traveling through multiverses because of something(we now know it was Doctor Strange’s botched spell) and ending in Tom Holland’s Peter Parker’s world. However, when Doctor Strange’s second spell works in No Way Home, we saw Eddie going back to his timeline in the mid-credits scene — but not before leaving a tiny sliver of symbiote behind.

Strange Supreme

This year’sWhat If…?Introduced some new possibilities that could’ve-would’ve happened in the MCU, and the introduction of “Strange Supreme” was one of the strangest sights in the show. The episode asked what would’ve happened if Strange had lost his love, Christine, instead of his hands in the car crash. To bring back Christine, Strange went to some dark lengths which ultimately resulted in him becoming “Strange Supreme”, the future protagonist.

Shang-Chi Equipping The Ten Rings

The new hero Shang-Chi’s biggest adversary in MCU was his father, Wenwu, aka The Mandarin.Shang-Chidefeats Wenwu, and in his final moments, he bequeaths the Ten Rings to his son. The viewers still don’t know much about this artifact, but this could be the next “big thing” for the MCU.

The Eternals stopping the Emergence

When theEternalsstop the emergence, they make the giant robot-looking Celestial called Arishem very mad. The beings of his creation had overturned years of his work, so Arishem lets the Eternals know he will scan their 7,000 years’ worth of memories to see if the human race is worth saving. He’ll pass his judgment for the world then. So, in a way, the future of MCU is literally in Arishem’s hands.

Wanda finally realizes her potential

We saw Wanda finally becoming Scarlet Witch. Thanks to Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha’s “words of wisdom,” of how Wanda was more than a TV wife- a myth, a spontaneous being capable of creating worlds. Then the thing happened that we wanted to happen for a long time now- Wanda understanding her power. Her newly awakened powers have made her the strongest character in the MCU.

When The Three Spider-Men Met

Only one moment from this year made the fans lose their minds no matter what generation they belonged to. That moment was when three Spider-Men from different universes met inSpider-Man: No Way Home. Tobey, who has not been a Spider-Man since 2007, and Andrew, who has not been one since 2014, met our recent Spider-Man, Tom Holland. This scene could change the entire trajectory of the franchise in MCU as Tobey and Andrew could reprise their roles in solo ventures.
