Capcom’sMega Man Xaction-platformer is split into 10 stages, the first being a tutorial or introduction stage, 8 main stages and then the final stage. Any of the 8 main stages can be done in any order you choose but clearing a stage will have an affect on other stages for better or for worse, so be alert on the select changes. Below is a guide for the Ocean stage and it’s boss, Launch Octopus. I will explain each of the enemies and boss you will face in this stage.
Mega Man X: Ocean Stage & Launch Octopus Guide
In this stage players will face a few foes before taking on the big boss at the end of the stage. In the Ocean stage you will also encounter two mini-bosses called the Anglerge and the Utuboros. Enemies include Amenhopper, Mega Tortoises, Sea Attackers and Gulpfers. The final boss' can be defeated more easily after acquiring Rolling Shield, which you’re able to obtain from defeating theArmored Armadillo stage. I will go through each in this step-by-step guide, so you will know all the tips and tricks needed to defeat this level.
Ocean Stage
Head forward to encounter anAmenhopper, a cross between a frog and waterskipper-like robot. After taking them out, you’ll run into someMega Tortoises. Beyond them there will be some seahorse robots calledSea Attackers. They will attempt to crash into you in pairs as you progress through the level. Sea Attackers arise from bubbles from the ground so be wary of them as you progress. Players don’t have to destroy them, instead players can jump over them and proceed without defeating them.
The mini boss,Anglergeis a large angler robot and is an easy fight to engage in. It has two major moves, either it will shoot 4 snake-like harpoon-like shots or it will create a vacuum to suck you in. A couple of charged buster shots to it will destroy it letting you move on to the next enemy.

After the first mini boss, players will run into several blowfish like enemies calledGulpfers. They will try to suck players in but they can be defeated very easily both inside and out. Up ahead will be yet another Anglerge mini boss for players to engage in. This time there will be spikes pits so mind your footing and jump with precision.
Continue proceeding forward and you will quickly run into 2 whirlpools. Jump into the second whirlpool when it’s at it’s peak, hop onto the green ship. Shoot the blue orb and the ship will sink. The sinking ship will create a passage to a new underground area. This area will lead to another mini boss calledUtuboroswho is a large snake-like robot. Shoot the Utuboros' weak points, the head and tail to damage him. This boss is easy to dodge but the due to his size will make it difficult at times. Defeating him will grant access to the Heart Tank.

Shortly after your fight with the Utuboros, players will engage with another one soon after. This one has the added ability to be able to dig underground and pop up so be mindful of the dust clouds as this is an indicator that Utuboros will emerge. Storm Tornado attack will deal good damage as a plan B if players get pressured. Head straight on once he is dead, next enemies to run into are some more Gulpfers that can be easily be dispatched. Launch Octopus will be waiting for you at the end of this level.
Boss: Launch Octopus
Launch Octopuscan be tricky as he fires several Homing Torpedoes as his attack. The regular missiles spread with 2 going higher, while 1 going lower than the other 2. He may send out 6 missiles at a time to seek you out. His charge shot consists of several fish projectiles fired from his tentacles. At times, Launch Octopus may hop up and create a whirlpool which will pull the player into it so be careful to avoid this.
Dashing away is very simple to do so to avoid being caught, as your health will be depleted and transferred to Launch Octopus if he catches you. If you do get caught, attempt to break free as soon as possible to minimize the HP transfer. Boomerang Cutter can chopped off his tentacles making the fight much more manageable. Then players can use Rolling Shield his weakness, to defeat him very quickly.

Note:Touching Launch Octopus and his missiles will cause 4 points of damage.

After defeating him, you receive Homing Torpedo which is Boomer Kuwanger’s weakness, I suggest you tackle this level next.
