30 Years of The Nightmare Before Christmas
Written and produced by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick,The Nightmare Before Christmastells the story of Jack Skellington, the ‘Pumpkin King’ of Halloween Town, who becomes fascinated with the Christmas holiday and tries to incorporate it into the town’s Halloween celebrations. The efforts, however, go hilariously sideways. Told through some incredible, Oscar-nominated stop-motion/claymation techniques, the film became an instant classic upon release in 1993, despite its dark, gothic themes. Fans have hoped a sequel would be made, butBurton insists it will never happen.
The film’s musical numbers are a standout, and were written by Danny Elfman, who also provided Jack’s singing voice. Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride) provided Jack’s speaking voice, Catherine O' Hara (Home Alone, Beetlejuice) voiced Sally and Shock, Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure) voiced Lock, Glenn Shadix voiced The Mayor, Ken Page voiced Oogie Boogie, and William Hickey voiced Dr. Finkelstein.
