Man of SteelandEnola HolmesstarHenry Cavillmight be breaking a lot of hearts with this assertion, but the actor admits that he’s not a fan of sex scenes and thinks they are too overused. During an appearance on theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, Cavill was promoting his new filmArgyllewith director Matthew Vaughn, and the actor said that even though he thinks they sometimes add something to a project, he believes it’s better for a movie or a series to not show sex scenes and let the viewer use their imagination.

“I don’t understand them - I’m not a fan. There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”

Superman: Red Son Starring Henry Cavill Is a DC Movie Matthew Vaughn Would Love to Make

Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn would love to bring Man of Steel star Henry Cavill back for a live-action adaptation of Superman: Red Son.

Henry Cavill Is No Stranger to Sex Scenes

Despite this revelation, theMan of Steelactor is no stranger to sex scenes. Cavill has done them on the seriesThe Tudorsand during his time on Netflix’sThe Witcher, which likely felt necessary to him since he believes there are circumstances when they are beneficial to the project. He also believes there are times when it’s just done to stimulate the audience as a cop-out.

“Most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it. So, it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, “Oh naked person, great.'”

Vaughn also chimed in on filming scenes that are more intimate, and he shares a similar stance to Cavill when it comes to the absolute necessity of having them.

“The thing I really don’t understand, and you’ve noticed I don’t really direct them because I can’t get my head around [them] - [is] sex scenes. It’s just something I don’t understand.”

Since they share similar perspectives, it probably comes as no surprise that there are no sex scenes in their filmArgylle, which sees Vaughn directing Cavill as a secret agent who is the lead character in a fictional book series written by author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard). The lines become blurred when the author is thrown into her own real-life espionage adventure as one of her books may hold the secrets to the misdeeds of a global crime syndicate. In addition to Cavill, the film also stars Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Argylleis now playing in movie theaters nationwide.
