The online servers for theDark Soulsgames have gone through a lot this year. Just before the release ofElden Ringnear the beginning of 2022, FromSoftware announced that it had to remove all online functionality from itsDark Soulsgames on PC due to some dangerous security issues. Just a few months ago, the studio announced thatDark Souls 3wasup and running again, but patient fans were still waiting to hear news about thefirst two gamesin the series. Now, FromSoftware has revealed that it resolved the online woes forDark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin.
The news comes from theofficial Twitter accountwhich says that the online functionality of theScholar of the First Sinversion (running on DX11) has been restored. The studio is working to restore online features for the base version of the game (running on DX9) and this fix will come at an unspecified later date.

Prepare to cry
Unfortunately, the news ofDark Souls 2regaining online features was followed by some sadder news. FromSoftware confirmed that it would not be able to do the same forDark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. In afollow-up Tweet, FromSoftware said that it “will not be able to support online services for the PC version ofDark Souls: Prepare to Die Editionthat was released in 2012, due to an aging system.”
The studio thanked fans for their support of the original game before going on to mention that it is still working to restore servers forDark Souls Remastered. Judging by how long it took to fix the online functionality inDark Souls 3andDark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, it’s difficult to say how long it might take FromSoftware to resolve the issues plaguingDark Souls Remastered. Dedicated fans will need to be patient until that time.
