Colin Trevorrow is eager to see what the new generation behind the ‘Jurassic World’ revival have done with the franchise.
Universal Pictures is Looking for a New Franchise
Currently, Erivo is only signed on as a producer forSaturation Point, so it is unclear whether she will star as the lead character, Dr. Jasmine Marks. Universal Pictures likely wouldn’t mind the Academy Award-nominated actress of their blockbusterWickedbeing the lead of a potential new sci-fi franchise. Universal Pictures has already landed Erivo’sWickedco-star Ariana Grande forMeet the Parents 4, so the studio wants to keep the stars of their upcomingWicked: For Goodhappy and working within the company.
Saturation Pointis the latest high-concept sci-fi film from Bay and Fuller’s Platinum Dunes. The production company originally began its operations in the early 2000s with horror remakes such asThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Friday the 13th, andthe widely dislikedA Nightmare on Elm Street. The company hit it big financially and critically with bothThe PurgeandA Quiet Place, two films that went on to become modern horror franchises. Universal Pictures is likely hoping for a similar situation forSaturation Point, which could be a cross betweenJurassic ParkandA Quiet Place.

Saturation Pointis still in the early days of development, but ifSaturation Pointgains momentum, it might make it to the screen sooner than Adrian Tchaikovsky’s acclaimedChildren of Timebook series. The film rights for the 2016 Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning book were optioned in 2017, but so far, nothing has come of it. Even though Bay and Erivo are currently signed on to produceSaturation Point, the film is still a long way from happening and could take some time. Bay himself is likely not expected to direct, as he is working on both an adaptation ofSkibidi Tolietand isreturning to theTransformersfranchise.
