As previously announced, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was one of the main highlights of the Xbox Developer Direct. During the event, we got to see a new trailer, hear from the developers, and best of all—its release date was revealed. And it’s just around the corner!
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33was first introduced last June during the Xbox Games Showcase, quickly catching the attention of JRPG fans, thanks in large part to its eye-catching combat system, which combines turn-based mechanics with reactive actions.
Since then, its developer, the French studio Sandfall Interactive, has continued to share updates on what is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated JRPGs of 2025, including its star-studded voice cast.

The new trailer for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reassures classic JRPG fans that Sandfall Interactive is incorporating some of the most beloved elements of the genre.
One of these is the overworld map, where players will guide their party between various locations. Speaking of locations, the trailer showcased a wide variety of settings, including desolate landscapes, villages, and bustling cities—once again evoking the feel of classic role-playing games.
Another intriguing aspect mentioned during the Xbox Developer Direct is that the game won’t be all gloom and doom. While previous glimpses of Expedition 33 hinted at a story filled with drama, the developers confirmed that there will also be moments of humor.
In line with this, a new party member was introduced, promising plenty of comic relief. Additionally, the gameplay differences between characters were explored, with each boasting a unique playstyle and customization options through an item calledLumima.
And as revealed in the trailer, we now have an official release date:Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches on July 25, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game will also be available at no extra cost on Xbox Game Pass starting on launch day. In just three months, players will embark on this epic JRPG journey!
