Best Lance Skills in MHWilds- InMonster Hunter Wilds, the satisfying gameplay loop of hunting monsters to get loot to craft stronger gear to hunt strongermonstersmakes a grand return. And with this grand return also comes the return of a variety of skills that come with the equipment you will be forging and using in your hunts.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are a total of 148Skillsthat have unique effects, and each one of them is helpful in a particular aspect when you are playing the game. A lot of the skills that were in the previous games make a return with a few newly added skills.

Best Lance Skills in MHWilds - Offensive Guard

The biggest change to skills in Monster Hunter Wilds is that some of the Equipment skills that were on the armor pieces in the previous games have been moved to the weapons. This particular change makes it so that you will not be locked into specific monster trees when using a particular weapon.

In this guide, we will be taking a look at the skills that will bring out theLance’sfull potential during your hunts.

Best Lance Skills in MHWilds - Ironwall Jewel

The Lance is a weapon that revolves around having the strongest block in the game and damaging the monster with powerful counter thrusts. However, that doesnt mean it lacks damage potential, as it can deal huge amounts of damage following a block. As such, the best skills for the Lance are those that convert your defense into significant offensive bonuses.

Tier I Best Skills for the Lance

The best skills to have in your loadout when using the lance includes the Offensive Guard, Guard, Guard Up, Resentment, Convert Element and Elemental Absorption skills. The Offensive Guard, Guard and Guard Up skills are equipment skills found on the weapon while Resentment, Convert Element and Elemental Absorption skills can be found on the armor pieces.

Offensive Guard

Offensive Guard– This skill is ideal for the Lance because it provides a temporary increase in attack power after performing a perfect guard. Since you will be executing more perfect guards than with other blocking weapons, this skill allows you to leverage the Lance’s defensive strength for an offensive boost.

Guard– This skill is crucial to the Lance’s moveset, as it reduces both the knockback and the stamina depletion incurred when blocking. Since the Lance’s moveset primarily revolves around its block, this skill enables you to block more attacks before your stamina runs out, preventing you from having to drop your guard.

Best Lance Skills in MHWilds - Shield Jewel II

Guard Up- the Guard Up skill increases the level of your guard, making it possible to guard against attacks that were previously unblockable, such as roars and tremors, and it also reduces the incoming damage of bigger attacks by up to 80% at the max level (level 3). This skill is great for Lance users, as having this skill will enhance all your guards including the Power Guard, letting you tank anything and everything the monsters can throw at you (even the strongest attack of Arkveld) in your Power Guard stance. Just make sure you have enough stamina when doing so.

All three skills working together will make the Lance user a truly impenetrable wall of defense. Even though there are a variety of lances that will offer you a combination of two of the three skills mentioned above, you will not find a lance that has all three skills together. You will have to use decoration slots to use all three skills at the same time.

Best Lance Skills in MHWilds - Resentment

Resentment

Resentment -The Resentment skill is a skill that increases your attack when you have recoverable damage, the red portion of your Health Gauge. At the max level (level 5), this skill increases your attack by +25 when active. This skill works really well with the Lance because you will be aiming towards blocking all the attacks from the monster to deliver counterattacks. As such, the larger attacks will chip away at your health bar—even if not by a lot—but will activate the Resentment skill, which will let you increase your attack value, making your counter thrusts even more powerful.

Elemental Absorption

Elemental Absorption -The next skill, Elemental Absorption, will increase your elemental attacks and resistance to the elemental damage you have taken during your hunt. This is an extremely good skill since it boosts both your offensive and defensive stats, letting you deal more damage while giving an extra boost to your already strong defense when using the Lance.

Convert Element

Convert Element -The Convert Element skill will temporarily give you dragon element effects after taking elemental damage. While active, it also increases your dragon attack. This skill can lead to massive amounts of damage, as the increase in dragon attack will considerably boost your damage output against the monster.

Since you will be tanking most of the attacks, the damage that goes through when you don’t get a perfect guard will activate both the Elemental Absorption and Convert Element skills, bolstering both your offense and defense.

Best Lance Skills in MHWilds - Elemental Absorption

Stamina Surge

Stamina Surge -The last skill on the best tier list is the Stamina Surge skill. This skill increases your stamina regeneration by 50% at max level (level 3), and having it will take away the need to worry about your stamina after blocking most attacks.

Tier II Best Skills for the Lance

This next set of skills will help with hunting using the Lance, as they can reinforce certain aspects of the weapon, so I’ve included them in Tier 2 of this Best Lance Skills in MHWilds Guide. However, compared to the skills in the best tier, they fall just short of offering maximum value.

Constitution

Constitution -The Constitution skill reduces the stamina depletion of actions such as evades and blocks. Since you will be blocking for the majority of the time when using the Lance, this skill can provide value in helping with your stamina management, especially if you do not have the Stamina Surge skill.

Marathon Runner

Marathon Runner -the Marathon Runner skill is an equipment skill found on armor pieces, and it reduces the continuous stamina depletion rate of actions that do so. For the Lance, this skill directly affects the stamina drain rate when you are in your Power Guard and will let you hold your Power Guard stance longer, making it less likely for you to run out of stamina in the middle of power guarding against the most powerful attack from the monster.

Recovery Up&Recovery Speed

TheRecovery UpandRecovery Speedskills can help Lance users during their hunts, as the Recovery Up skill increases the amount you heal from all sources, and the Recovery Speed skill speeds up the rate at which you regain the red portion of your health bar. Having these skills will help you keep your guard up and continue your counterattacks during your hunts, as you will be healing back the damage you have taken from some of the big attacks your guard cannot fully block.

Partbreaker

Partbreaker –The Partbreaker skill increases the damage you do to the weak parts of the monster, for example, the head and the tail, and also increases the damage you do when you destroy the wounds inflicted on the monster during the hunt. This skill is outstanding for the Lance, as the Lance user will mainly be focusing on the monster’s head, damaging it with counterattacks after guarding its attack. It is also helpful in getting the tail cuts while using the Lance, as the Lance deals slashing/serpering, making it possible to cut the tail off while the monster is toppled.

Optional skills (Tier III skills) for the Lance

These skills can be helpful when using the Lance as your primary weapon, but they will not do a lot to enhance the Lance’s strong points, however they are still worth mentioning in this Best Lance Skills in MHWilds Guide. As such, these skills are good to have when you have a free slot after putting together your strongest possible skills.

Defense Boost

TheDefense Boostskill will provide you with a +35 defensive boost and another total +10% increase to your total defense value in addition to the +5 elemental resistance. This will make you a lot more tanky and will prevent you from taking massive amounts of damage in the rare instances where the monster’s attacks get through the strong guarding capabilities of the Lance.

Weakness Exploit

Weakness Exploit –The Weakness Exploit skill increases the affinity when attacking weak parts of the monster and increases the affinity even further when you hit or destroy wounds. And if you are using a more affinity-prone weapon or skills, the Weakness Exploit can get your affinity to upwards of 50% reliably whenever you hit a weak point. But compared to skills in the other tiers, this skill is more reliant on chance and does not enhance the blocking and countering in any other ways apart from the increase in damage output.

Doshaguma’s Might/Powerhouse

Lastly,Doshaguma’s Might/Powerhouse– the set bonus skill gained from having at least two pieces of the Doshaguma or Guardian Doshaguma armor set, the Powerhouse skill gives you a temporary increase in attack power after a successful offset or a powerclash. This can be triggered reliably with the Lance, as you will go into a powerclash at least once during your hunt. But this skill has two downsides: it requires you to use specific armor sets, and it is not active all the time—you have to trigger it with your attacks, which has a lot of variable factors when you are hunting a monster. As such, even though this skill gives a powerful attack boost, the situational nature of the skill prevents it from being one of the best skills.

So, these are the best skills to use with the Lance in bringing out its full potential in my opinion. I hope you find this helpful.
