Avatar Would Have to Overtake the Third or Fourth Highest-Grossing Film
Director James Cameron has claimed thatAvatar 2will have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film to be profitable. Considering this, the film would have to overtakeStar Wars: The Force AwakensorAvengers: Infinity War, which currently hold the fourth and fifth spot, respectively, in the highest-grossing films.
Avengers: Endgamewas the last film to cross $2 billion at the box office and currently is the second highest-grossing film. However, the pandemic affected the box office collection of many movies.
But still films likeSpider-Man: No Way HomeandTop Gun: Maverickmanaged to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office.Considering that the two movies that managed to turn huge profits were sequels,Avatar: The Way of Watercan also cross the margin.
The first film received a great response from viewers and critics. The recent re-release of the film also did quite well at the box office, so there is a possibility that it could be profitable and could achieve the target set by the filmmakers.
