Atomfall: 10 Tips and Tricks We Wish We Knew Sooner

Our best suggestions on how to survive inside (and outside) of the Interchange in Atomfall.

We’ve found a bunch of different references and hidden details scattered throughout the open world outside the Interchange, and some of them are worthy of tracking down and discovering for yourself.

10The Great War Memorial

With a bit of WWII thrown in the

In the center of the peaceful Wyndham Village is The Green, a delightful little patch of grass with a gazebo and this finely-sculpted stone structure.

Upon closer inspection, players will discover that this is a monument to the soldiers from Wyndham that gave their lives in World War I. There’s even an informational pamphlet on the edge of the statue for players to read, breaking down the historically accurate phenomenon of “Pals battalions” from Britain in the World Wars.

9War of the Worlds

A work of “fiction”

It’s the 1960s, so there isn’t much chance of finding any DVDs or gaming consoles lying around the Interchange for you to discover. There are, however, plenty of books.

One of the only fictional books you’re able to find in this countryside full of scientists is H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. Spoiler alert to all the newbies out there:

This is an allusion to the true nature of the Windscale experiments, which study an alien artifact that has crashed from space.

8Fawlty Towers

Stay for the night

While they may not be open for business at the moment, the Mereview Hotel by the waterfront in Wyndham Village still has a reference to share with the British sitcom fans out there.

The Mereview Hotel is modeled after the titular hotel from the sitcom Fawlty Towers, with a nearly identical exterior to the one in the show. There’s even a loose letter on the sign for the hotel, matching the faulty letters in the show’s logo.

7Doctor Who

A trilby, or a T.A.R.D.I.S.

For all of you fans of the iconic BBC television series Doctor Who, you’ll want to head over to the Skethermore Interchange entrance and take a look around the north side of the large concrete structure.

If you look from the fields below, you’ll be able to spot a blue Police Box sitting up on the hill, universally recognized as the Doctor’s primary mode of transportation. If you get too close (like we did), the T.A.R.D.I.S. will disappear, leaving behind a pile of stone and an eerily familiar trilby on the ground nearby.

6Under the Pub

What has that bartender been up to?

If you’re looking for some juicy gossip about the town of Wyndham Village, head to the Grendel’s Head pub and take a peak in the back room behind the front counter.

The stairs behind the counter lead to a basement, which is full of secrets and even an entire new area to explore. It would seem that some of the residents of Wyndham Village are not so thrilled by the arrival of the Protocols to their quaint town, and are ready to do something about it.

5Wyndham Gnomes

A secret trophy awaits

In true British countryside fashion, there are a bunch of small garden gnomes hidden around the village of Wyndham (ten to be exact) that, when destroyed, make a small gnomish yelp and disappear.

If you manage to find all the gnomes and destroy them, you’ll be granted a secret achievement (or trophy for PlayStation users) for collecting all ten of the gnomes. We recommend going to the top of the church tower to start!

A tragic holiday

In the northwest region of Slatten Dale, near where the convoy crashed by the bridge, there is a rather peculiar skeleton riding a sofa on a car with a rowboat oar.

This, of course, is a reference to British comedian Rowan Atkinson’s iconic character Mr. Bean, recreating one of the hilarious wacky scenarios that he finds himself in during his antics in his films and television shows.

3A Spot of Tea

Would you care to sit with me?

Sure, there are plenty of boxes of tea scattered around the world of Atomfall, but are you really going to eat it dry like that? A proper citizen of the United Kingdom knows that a teacup and kettle are always necessary for consuming tea.

Throughout the village of Wyndham, you may find these pristine porcelain teacups and kettles adorned with pink floral designs. Interacting with the kettle will pick up and pour the tea into the teacup, which can also be interacted with to drink out of.

2Fun in the Playground

Take a ride on the slide

This is more of a fun detail than an Easter egg, but did you know that everything in the playgrounds of Atomfall is granted interactive physics mechanics?

The swings can be pushed, the see-saws can be jumped on and tilted in either direction, the slide can be climbed and ridden down and the merry-go-rounds will spin in a circle while you sit on top of it. You can even find a ball to play a bit of football with (though finding a full team of players may prove difficult).

1A Lovely Piece of Needlework

Who says the Protocols don’t have class?

Inside the Wyndham Village Hall, you’ll find a pair of nice couches sitting in the front room with the secretary. On the far right couch, there is a special pillow sitting in the center of the sofa.

This is an embroidered pillow that features a design of the nearby Wyndham Church, complete with all the wings and the Church tower in the design. Of course, the dead body and secret blue-skinned scientist hidden inside are not depicted in this piece of art.
