Apple is going to discontinue its Photo Print Products service on August 25, 2025.
According to a message in the Photos app on macOS 10.13.6spottedby 9to5Mac, the Cupertino company will stop offering the service by the end of September.
The message reads:
To create a Photos Project, download a Photos Project Extension from Mac App Store to create books, cards, calendars and prints, or reprint an existing project. You’ll also discover a variety of new services available through Project Extensions. For final purchases using the existing built-in service, place your orders by June 18, 2025.
The service debuted alongside the iPhoto’s initial release back in 2002.
It stayed around on the Mac platform even after the old iPhoto app was supplanted by the new Photos software, but has never made a leap onto iPhone and iPad. In iPhoto, the service powered prints, coffee table albums and photo books, plus calendars.
Creating a project like a printed photo book in Photos requires a third-party extension
“In macOS Mojave, Photos already does not include any references to Apple’s integrated Photo Print Products service,” the publication notes.
ThemacOS High Sierra updatebrought several updates to the stock Photos app, including all-new Project Extensions. With it, third parties can add project-based features to Photos for things like ordering framed prints, creating web pages, exporting slideshows and using other publishing services like Mimeo Photos, Animoto, GoodTimes, WhiteWall, Shutterfly and Wix.

To start a new project in the Photos app for Mac, chooseFile → Createand select the kind of project you would like to create. You will then be prompted to download a compatible extension from Mac App Store if you don’t have one already.
