This guide dives deep into the Battle Arts available for every weapon in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, providing an in-depth look at their abilities, effects, and how they can be used to gain the upper hand against your enemies. We’ll explore the strengths of each weapon type, their unique Battle Arts, and how mastering them can transform you into a true force of nature on the battlefield.

Battle Arts Weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Battle Arts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins are the individual abilities that you can unlock for weapons in the game. Each of the ten weapon types will have unique Battle Arts that build on their individual strengths. When you first unlock a new weapon type, you will have access to three Battle Art abilities as a default. Additionally, you can purchase/unlock two more in the store. You can also unlock at least four more for each weapon by completing quests, increasing companion relationships, and increasing peace.

Furthermore, using your Battle Arts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins requires Bravery. Bravery is a special recourse that you can generate by successfully hitting enemies with normal attacks. The more normal attacks you can string together without being interrupted, the more Bravery you will build. You can also increase the total amount of Bravery and how you gain it through skill passives, portables, and weapon traits.

Additionally, all Battle Art skills can be Mastered. You work towards mastery of a Battle Art by using the ability in combat. Moreover, once Mastered, your Battle Art ability gains additional effects and power.

Finally, some Weapon Battle Arts in Dynasty Warriors Origins are designated as ‘Special’. Typically, this means that they possess the ability to interrupt enemy attacks. Therefore, when choosing your four active Battle Art abilities, always ensure to have at least one Special.

Shadowless Blade

All Shadowless Blade features and mechanics:

Shadowless Blade is a good low-cost Battle Art ability that does decent damage and also ‘stuns’ enemies that are hit. However, although it can strike multiple enemies in front of you, you’ll still need to watch your back for enemies charging up behind.

All Weapon Battle Arts (Skills and Abilities) in Dynasty Warriors Origins

[Sp.] Palm Strike

All [Sp.] Palm Strike features and mechanics:

Palm Strike is a great early-game special Battle Art ability for the sword. It only costs one Bravery, and is very easy to always have on-hand as an interrupt. You’ll probably want to switch it out with something stronger later on, but this is a good first choice.

Swallow Slash

All Swallow Slash features and mechanics:

Swallow Slash is a decent early-game Battle Art ability for the sword, but will likely not be one that you have on your active bar for very long. This attack only hits enemies directly in front of you, so be careful when there surrounded.

All Mad Blade Rush features and mechanics:

Mad Blade Rush is a much better early Battle Art ability choice for the sword because of the speed and mobility it grants you. Moreover, because you’re swinging the sword around as you move, you’ll be creating a small radius AOE that will clear out enemies in the path ahead. Because you’re on the move, you don’t have to worry about enemies at your back, either.

Falcon Flurry

All Falcon Flurry features and mechanics:

Falcon Flurry is a decent ability that will mostly cause damage to the enemy or boss right in front of you but can also hit other nearby opponents. Additionally, the ability appears to have a slight amount of range, so you can keep a bit of distance from your enemy.

[Sp.] Absconding Slash

All Absconding Slash features and mechanics:

Absconding Slash has a higher Bravery cost than a simple interrupt like Palm Strike. However, using the Absconding Slash ability will not only stop a boss attack but will let you dash back. This will give you a bit of distance from your opponent when you are feeling under pressure.

Flying Dragon Slash

All Flying Dragon Slash features and mechanics:

As we start to get into the higher Bravery cost Sword abilities, Flying Dragon Slash is one of the first that gives this weapon a serious area-of-effect radius. Moreover, it can also hit enemies at a distance, giving you some much-needed range.

Shadow Dance

All Shadow Dance features and mechanics:

Although it’s a high-cost Battle Art ability, Shadow Dance offers some nice crowd control to move enemies off when you’re feeling under pressure. Create a shadow clone and the enemies will not only attack it instead of you, but the clone’s attacks will pull in the enemies it hits and then throw them even further back.

Divine Eagle Dance

All Divine Eagle Dance features and mechanics:

The final, most powerful Sword Battle Art ability, Divine Eagle Dance is a truly powerful AOE. You can use it to deal single-target damage to a boss directly. However, with each strike, you will create energy that builds in a globe surrounding you. This will then explode, pushing back any nearby enemies.

All Spear Battle Art Abilities

The spear is the second weapon you will unlock in DWO, and will be rewarded to you after the Battle of Guangyang. They give you a much wider range of attack, and the pointed blade at the top is typically narrow.

Here are all of the Spear weapon Battle Arts abilities you’re able to unlock in Dynasty Warriors: Origins:

Piercing Vengeance

All Piercing Vengeance features and mechanics:

Piercing Vengeance is one of the Battle Art skills for the spear that will be available as a default and it’s a decent, low-cost damage-dealing ability. However, this ability does not interrupt more powerful boss attacks. It will only trigger when you are hit with a regular strike.

Spree of Devastation

All Spree of Devastation features and mechanics:

The Spree of Devastation ability is a great knock-back ability that will easily clear some space around you on the battlefield. Although you swing the spear all the way around you, most of the force of the strike will hit enemies directly in front of you.

All Wild Rush features and mechanics:

The Wild Rush Battle Art for the spear is a nice low-cost gap closer that allows you to devastate the enemy’s frontlines. However, keep in mind that if you use this ability to rush into a large group of enemies, you can leave yourself vulnerable to being flanked on the sides.

[Sp.] Aerial Assault

All Aerial Assault features and mechanics:

This is the first interrupt ability that is unique to the spear, but it has a higher cost than the Power Shot ability you can unlock in the Expert Rank passive skill tree. However, if you don’t have access to that ability yet, then Aerial Assault will serve as a good placeholder.

Rising Dragon Vortex

All Rising Dragon Vortex features and mechanics:

The best way to use the Rising Dragon Vortex ability would be to pair it with another Battle Art ability that can be performed in midair, so you get the additional damage. Wild Rush would be a great option for this, as the cost of chaining these two abilities together would be 5 Bravery.

Savage Thrust Barrage

All Savage Thrust Barrage features and mechanics:

Savage Thrust Barrage is a good combination of single-target damage directly against a boss. Additionally, the strikes can reach beyond the opponent you are hitting directly and can impact enemies beyond. Finally, the hit will swing your spear around in a sweep, knocking foes back.

Dance of the Whirlwind

All Dance of the Whirlwind features and mechanics:

Dance of the Whirlwind is a great crowd-control ability to use when you are surrounded by multiple enemies. As the whirlwind pulls enemies up off the ground they will not be able to attack you, in addition to taking damage.

Dragon Flash

All Dragon Flash features and mechanics:

Dragon Flash is an expensive ability, costing all of your 8 Bravery to use. Moreover, you won’t unlock this until end game. However, it deals a massive amount of damage, and shreds through officers’ fortitude, making it a must-have for assaulting high HP bosses.

All Gauntlets Battle Art Abilities

Gauntlets in Dynasty Warriors: Origins are a physical, personal type of weapon that allows you to strike an enemy multiple times very quickly. You will unlock them after completing the Battle of Guangzong.

Here are all of the Gauntlet Weapon Battle Arts abilities you can unlock in Dynasty Warriors: Origins:

Flying Kick

All Flying Kick features and mechanics:

Flying Kick is a good early-game Battle Art ability for Gauntlets that can even provide a little crowd control. So long as you hit an enemy on your first kick, you’ll be carried forward into another. Additionally, you can hit more enemies with the kick as you move forward into them. You can chain up to three kicks in total.

Elbow Strike

All Elbow Strike features and mechanics:

Elbow Strike is a low-cost gap closer ability for the Gauntlets. It can be very useful in the early game, because of the gauntlet’s lack of range. However, it probably won’t be something you keep on your active skill bar for long.

Flowing Form

All Flowing Form features and mechanics:

Although Flowing Form is a low-cost ability, you won’t be able to use it until you unlock it by raising the peace meter in Xu Province. Once high enough, inspect the waypoint at Zhao Yun to receive it. This ability won’t do damage but allows you to change stances more quickly.

Hurricane Kick

All Hurricane Kick features and mechanics:

Hurricane Kick is a Gauntlet Battle Art ability with a moderate Bravery cost that you’ll want to add to your active skill bar. It does good damage in a radius around you, which makes it an effective AOE. Additionally, it allows you to move while the animation is active, so you can target groups of enemies.

Maw of the Tiger

All Maw of the Tiger features and mechanics:

Although this is not an interrupt ability, Maw of the Tiger can deal decent single-target damage. Be careful when using it against officers, because only a normal strike will trigger this effect.

[Sp.] Ardent Energy Strike

All Ardent Energy Strike features and mechanics:

This is an interrupt ability that is unique to gauntlets, but it has a slightly higher cost than the Power Shot ability you’re able to unlock in the Expert Rank passive skill tree. However, if you don’t have access to that ability yet, then Ardent Energy Strike serves as a good placeholder.

Stone Strike Blast

All Stone Strike Blast features and mechanics:

Stone Strike Blast is also a moderate-cost bravery battle art ability that deals damage in front of you. This ability is great for burst damage and has the added bonus of dealing a knock-back against your enemies.

Wrath of Earth

All Wrath of Earth features and mechanics:

Wrath of Earth is another great burst damage ability, this time dealing area-of-effect damage in a full radius around you. It’s a high-cost ability, however, so you’ll want to be strategic using it when you can deal the most damage to multiple enemies around you.

Heaven and Earth’s Wrath

All Heaven and Earth’s Wrath features and mechanics:

The Heaven and Earth’s Wrath ability will do an incredible amount of damage, both to your main target and to any foes that happen to be in the damage radius. However, it will cost all of your Bravery to use this Battle Art. Therefore, be sure to slot a low-cost interrupt so that you can quickly build Bravery back up.

All Wheel Battle Art Abilities

Wheels in Dynasty Warriors: Origins come in pairs and are hand-held circular blades that can be thrown to deal damage against enemies at mid-range. You will unlock them after the Suppression of You Province battle.

Here are all of the Wheel Weapon Battle Arts abilities you may unlock in Dynasty Warriors: Origins:

Crawling Dragon

All Crawling Dragon features and mechanics:

The delay on Crawling Dragon before the ‘spirit blades’ of the wheels come down to hit your target will make this tricky to time correctly. However, it’s a low-cost ability and the real feature of it is the ability it has to stagger, rather than the damage it deals.

Claw of the Predator

All Claw of the Predator features and mechanics:

The Claw of the Predator Battle Art is a good ability to use for crowd control. When you have high Bravery available, use this to pull enemies in towards you, and chain with another ability to take out multiple enemies.

Harvest Moon

All Harvest Moon features and mechanics:

Harvest Moon is a Battle Art ability that requires you to let go of your weapons, and they spin around doing damage independently. If you have some distance from your enemies this might be a good way to deal damage before you’re in the midst of them, but letting go of your weapon while surrounded probably isn’t recommended

Triple Tempest

All Triple Tempest features and mechanics:

Triple Tempest is a solid area-of-effect ability that will not only damage enemies all around you but finish with a knock-back hit against those in front of you.

Flying Spirit Wave

All Flying Spirit Wave features and mechanics:

The effectiveness of the Flying Spirit Wave Battle Art ability will vary depending on your skill. Those who can execute it at the right moment after catching a returning wheel will increase the damage done. Furthermore, this is a good ability to use when fighting with an officer but pressed by other enemies on all sides. The thrown wheels will spiral out to deal AOE damage, and then fire forward directly into your main opponent.

[Sp.] Tornado Slam

All Tornado Slam features and mechanics:

With a cost of 4 Bravery, the Tornado Slam ability is a little pricey for an interrupt. It does deal good damage, but you’re more at risk if you’re in need of an interrupt before you’ve rebuilt your Bravery.

Flying Lotus Gambit

All Flying Lotus Gambit features and mechanics:

Flying Lotus Gambit is a higher-cost Battle Art ability that sounds like it is more single-target, but the wheels can actually fly off to the side some for a bit of AOE. However, the wheels do not come near going around in a radius, so be aware of enemies at your flank.

All Twin Tiger Blast features and mechanics:

The Twin Tiger Blast ability is one of the game’s highest Bravery costs, but the highest damage abilities. [Sp.] Ice Luan

All Ice Luan features and mechanics:

This powerful AOE Battle Art also double as an interrupt that can stagger your opponent. Unfortunately, it comes at an incredibly high cost of Bravery. Using this ability will drain your entire stock of Bravery. You’ll need to be skilled enough to build up that amount of bravery without otherwise using it. Consequently, you’ll want to slot at least one very low cost interrupt ability, so you aren’t just reliant on this one.
