Ridley Scottrecently wrapped production onAlien: Covenant, which will be the first properAliensmovie we have had in a very long time. Yes,Prometheuswas a prequel toAlien, but it was buried pretty deep back in the lore and was only loosely connected to the franchise. Outside ofScott’s new movie, fans are eagerly awaiting any firm updates on the status ofNeill Blomkamp’s highly anticipatedAlien 5. Fox hasn’t given any official word on it, but starMichael Biehnseems very confident that the movie is still going to happen.

Biehnof course played the part of Hicks inJames Cameron’sAliens, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary.Biehnappeared at the panel for the movie that took place during at San Diego Comic-Con, but the subject ofAlien 5didn’t get addressed, at least by him. However, the actor recently spoke quite a bit about the project with Forbes and revealed that he seems quite confident it will happen at some point. Here is what he had to say.

“I think it would be very embarrassing to Fox if they don’t giveSigourneythe movie that she really wants to go out on. I don’t know when it’s going to happen but I know it’s going to happen and I know I’m going to be in it and there’s going to be a newNewt, she’s going to be about 26 or 27 and looks a lot likeJennifer Lawrenceto me but I don’t know.”

Back whenBlomkampwas promotingChappie, he randomly tweeted out some amazing concept art for a sequel toAliensthat went viral in a big way. This got the attention of Fox, and that ultimately led to the movie getting the go-ahead.Blomkamphad a draft of the script completed and everything seemed in place, but then things fell apart.Biehnspoke about that a bit as well.

“I thought [the film] was dead and gone as [Weaver] probably did too as well as Fox. [Blomkamp] tweeted out some pictures of me, he said he’s going take the third and fourth film and act like they never happened and things blew up. It looked like it was all go and thenRidley Scottdecided that he was going to do a second and third film in the Prometheus series, but Sigourney says they are still doing their project.”

Sigourney Weaverhas been championing the project ever since it seemed to die at the hands ofRidley Scott, who is seemingly comfortable finishing his career making prequels toAlien. The problem forBlomkampis that, even though his pitch was very exciting to Fox and fans,Chappietotally bombed. At the same time,Scotthad a massive hit withThe Martian. So, when he decided to finally pull the trigger onAlien: Covenant, it was hard for Fox not to go with the hot hand. Not only that, butAlienis his franchise, so in a way, whatScottwants goes.

For right now, it looks like Fox is just going to stick with theAlienprequelsScotthas planned, which kind of makes sense. On the other hand, theAlienscast isn’t getting any younger, and if they wantBlomkampto actually do his movie, they need to work something about relatively soon. We will have to wait and see what happens.Alien: Covenantis set for release on June 11, 2025.
